Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

Writing

It has been my dream for many years to write a novel. Lack of confidence and self-belief holds me back. I have never quite made the breakthrough with it yet. I admire anyone who has the determination and perseverance to sit down and write a novel, create characters, and conjure a story. I am now trying at last to move forward with my writing, and am working on a couple of ideas for novels.

My writing:

One of nine runners up in the M. R. Hall Crime writing competition 2013 judged by M. R. Hall together with Maria Rejt and Sophie Orme, Publisher and Editor at Pan Macmillan imprint Mantle.

A short piece on ReadWave - a 150 word story to include the hidden phrase 'if you love books and reading' http://www.readwave.com/the-tearooms_s66362/

Courses and events I've attended:

Get Writing 2013
I attended Get Writing 2013, run by Verulam Writers' Circle, and this was an inspiring day of workshops and discussions with both established and budding writers.

Picador Notebook session
I attended a writing 'notebook' session at Picador publishers which was a great starting point for getting ideas and actually putting some words on paper.
